Po odbyciu pierwszej wojny światowej , wróciłem szczęśliwie do Poznania. Dnia 27 grudnia 1918 r. odbywało się uroczyste przyjęcie Ignacego Paderewskiego. Już o godz 15-tej rozpoczęły się pierwsze demonstracje na Placu Wolności, zdzieranie sztandarów niemieckich i potyczki z żołnierzami. Widząc co tam się dzieje udałem się po karabin i amunicje, dołączyłem się do grupy powstańców, którą dowodził Stanisław Nogaj. Rozdzieliliśmy się. Jedna grupa posuwała się w stronę południową, a druga w zachodzą. Niemieckie karabiny były dość silne i nas ostrzeliwały. Dlatego udaliśmy się na pierwsze piętro domu. Mieszkał tam Niemiecki-lekarz któremu odebraliśmy broń i przeszukaliśmy mieszkanie. Otworzyliśmy okna i strzelaliśmy. Po krótkiej wymianie strzałów, policja niemiecka poddała się.Jako pierwszą ofiarą z naszej strony poległ Franciszek Ratajczak.
